Was happy beyond measure to get off of duty today because it meant in two days I would be flying home, then came the phone call...

"Hello, this is *Beep* from Cheap Tickets, calling to inform you of a change of flight scedule."

Needless to say I became short fused very quickly and nearly lost it. I had purchased these tickets over two months ago and any change would mean less time with my family and friends, sure enough the other shoe dropped.

"Your tickets for the trip back have been canceled."

I nearly snapped right there and then, I had very little money left from purchasing new uniforms for the coming deployment and any changes would mean I would either have to leave early or possibly miss ships movement...neither were on my list of desirables.

"I can get you to LA but the flight out doesn't occur till the next day."

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH, DAMN YOU TO HE@#!!!!, I was thinking this of course, I was also thinking how to get my hand through the phone and around said caller's throat. Fortunatly my years in customer service came to use and I managed to not blow up and even managed to ask for a deal on hotels during this turn of events.

"I'm sorry but the airline will not accomodate this since it is a sceduling change and not an act of god."

I had had enough, I wrote down the information the caller gave about my new flights, thanked them, and hung up, nearly crushing my hand against the bricks. I know, neandrathalish but some release was needed after being told an entire day had been taken from me after fighting for so long to get this leave, two days, two freaking days before I leave and they throw this crap at me, ...bring it. I will see my family, visit my friends, and have fun regardless.

Wow... that's horrible! I think they should have some alternate plan for military men who only get a window of opportunity to visit loved ones.

It's like when employees come into the giftshop. I know they only get 15 minutes to themselves, so if I'm just showing jewelry to someone, I'll ask if they mind if I ring up the employee really quickly.

That is cool that you help out when you can. Makes peoples day when you can do that. I'm just glad I get to see my family later this day. Now if I can just survive the plane ride all will be honey and sugar cakes...:)....I hate planes, nothing else seems to make me feel so helpless then being over a mile in the air.
